I found that aspects of the global dimension were to be found in all subjects; it is extremely cross curricular and relevant to all aspects of the curriculum.

Learning about fair trade was great. I always see it in the shops but would have never bought anything because I didn’t understand.

I definitely have a greater knowledge [of the global dimension]  than I did in first year – this year I found it easier to see where I was including the global dimension than I did in first or second year.

Research quote

Since first year I’m definitely more confident with the global dimension.

Research quote

I think it’s an essential part of what we do because where we grow up there have been a lot of people who have been narrow minded and haven’t really looked outside the box.

Research quote

You want children to be enabled to see that not everybody has the same views and you want them to grow up without the same sectarianism.”

Research quote

The Global Dimension Resource Room staff suggested ways in which I may consider moving forward with my current project. One of their suggestions I put in practice and it was very successful. Additionally, they followed up on the usefulness of their advice. This was much appreciated.

Great information for teachers; good to know help is out there for us.

The materials in the Resource Room are great. It’s nice that everything’s in one place…it makes it easier to focus on my topic.

Recently I had occasion to use the Global Dimension Resource Room. I found the staff very accommodating and very willing to help with both material resources and advice. They provided me with phone numbers and websites and other resources for my Multicultural Facilitation Evenings.

The children approached them [global dimension activities] in a very positive manner, always the discussions developed as to what the children might do themselves to change things. I found this aspect of the Global Dimension very positive and very empowering for the children.

PGCE on teaching experience

I discovered that my science and technology lessons on the subject of electricity provided me with a great opportunity to discuss with the children various ideas about our consumption of natural resources and how this is contributing to climate change. I often found that the children would follow up on our discussions and report back to me days later, for example, how they had convinced their parents to not leave their electrical equipment on standby.

PGCE Student on teaching practice

They [the children] seemed to relish learning how little changes they made could make a difference.

PGCE student on teaching practice

I definitely feel that the Global Dimension in Education is something that all newly trained teachers should be able to take part in, and it is something that I will definitely integrate into my own teaching.

Student

The conference session allowed us to realize the preconceptions that we have when faced with a particular situation or identity.

Student

It [the conference] was very interesting and informative. It focused attention on the positive aspects of a diverse classroom and the opportunities which diversity provides. I felt that I had gained a better understanding of certain issues for myself and that I had also learned what I could do to start making changes in my own life.
