The Global Dimension in Education Certification Process

BEd1 students who include the Global Dimension in their teaching during their school experience and who want to be duly certified, must ask their school experience tutor to sign the Global Dimension section of the Scheme of Work. Also where students are teaching a lesson which focuses on the Global Dimension they should indicate this in the box headed Curriculum/Syllabus Area. In this case they must also get their tutor to sign the box.

Details of the Certification Process including the portfolio and proformas to be completed for the Global Dimension in Education can be found at the following links for BEd Primary students and BEd Secondary students. You will need to have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer to view these documents.

BEd2, 3 and 4 students will notice that this year’s School Experience Scheme of Work template has been amended to include the Global Dimension. The following concepts are integral to the Global Dimension in Education:

  • Global Citizenship
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Diversity
  • Human Rights
  • Interdependence
  • Social Justice
  • Sustainable Development
  • Values & Perceptions

These concepts are present in many areas of the Revised Curriculum, in particular in Personal Development and the World Around Us at Primary level and Local and Global Citizenship at Post-Primary level.

The knowledge, understanding, skills, values and attitudes which the Global Dimension promotes are central to the College’s mission statement and the aims of Catholic Education in general.

When planning schemes of work students should take account of the information given relating to the Global Dimension and incorporate appropriately. Remember to make use of the Global Dimension Resource Office (situated next to the College Chapel) when accessing resources. Examples of how the Global Dimension may be incorporated into the different subject areas can be found at the following link - Global Dimension.

BEd students can download the templates for a lesson plan and a scheme of work from the following links - Lesson Plan and Scheme of Work. You will need to have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer to view these documents.
