Research

St Mary's research group, Catholic Education, encourages and supports research by members and associates of the College in the field of Catholic education, for example, on the history and culture of Catholic schools, on issues of ethos, curricula, leadership and 'effectiveness' of Catholic education, nationally and internationally, and issues relating to social justice, ecumenism and inter-faith dialogue. The research group has a particular focus on issues relating to Catholic education in Ireland.

The research group’s expertise draws on a range of disciplines including education, theology, philosophy and the humanities, and encourages methodological pluralism. The research group aims to have a positive impact in the promotion of Catholic education throughout Ireland.

 

Public Engagement

The research group is committed to contributing to the development of the distinctive character of Catholic education and to explaining and supporting its place in a pluralist society.

 

Educational Activities

The members of the research group teach on programmes at St Mary’s University College catering for BEd primary, BEd post-primary, Liberal Arts and M-Level students. The research group also works with partners in Catholic education, especially primary and post-primary schools, other third level institutions, diocesan advisors and those engaged in the development of religious education programmes.
